In today’s video, I’ll show you how to use this mini sewing machine.
When you first take it out of the box, it’ll look something like this. The fabric will already be in place, and the machine will be threaded. Today, I’ll walk you through how to thread the machine, wind the bobbin, and get everything set up so you’re ready to sew. And if something goes wrong, like the thread running out or coming loose, you’ll know exactly what to do.
Let’s dive in! First, I’m going to remove the fabric. Right now, the presser foot is down, so I’ll lift it using this lever at the back. That brings the presser foot up, and I can easily pull out the fabric. Now, I’ll unthread the machine.
Next, I’ll plug it in to power it up. You can either use batteries or the power plug, whichever you prefer. Don’t forget to plug in the foot pedal, unless you plan to use the on/off button.
Now, we’re ready to go! To wind the bobbin, start by lifting the spool pin and placing your thread on it. Then, press the little button on the handle to release the bobbin winding pin. Press it in, then turn it towards you to pop it out. To lock it back in, push it in and turn it away from you.
Now, take the end of your thread and feed it through one of the holes on the bobbin. You can wind it around a bit to get it started. Make sure the thread is secure so it doesn’t fall off while winding.
Once that’s done, press your foot on the foot pedal and hold the thread lightly to keep the tension. Keep your hands steady and guide the thread from side to side while the bobbin winds.
When you’re done, carefully remove the bobbin, and if you want, use the thread cutter on the side of the machine. Don’t forget to push the bobbin winding pin back in and turn it away from you to lock it in place.
Next, you can snip any excess thread.
Now let’s move on to threading the top part of the machine. You can thread directly from the spool if you want, but I’m going to use this thread holder. It has a pin and a spring that provides tension, so be careful not to lose the spring. Pull out the pin, place the spool on it, and push it into the hole.
I’ve tried it with the thread coming off both over and under, and it works either way, so it’s up to you.
Now, let’s thread the machine. Start by passing the thread through the first guide from right to left. Pull it through to give yourself enough slack.
Next, feed the thread between the tension discs here. Pull it down so the thread sits nicely between them.
For the next guide, pass the thread through from right to left. Make sure it doesn’t get caught on anything.
Then, pass the thread through the next guide on the take-up lever, again from right to left.
Now, there’s another guide here. The light on the machine isn’t super bright, but it can help, so feel free to turn it on. Pass the thread through this guide from top to bottom.
Next, pass the thread through the guide on the needle bar from top to bottom.
Finally, we’re going to thread the needle. Make sure the needle is in its highest position by turning the handwheel towards you until the needle is at its highest point.
Now, thread the needle from left to right. If that’s tricky, you can use the needle threader. Just insert the threader from the right, put the thread through it, and pull it through the needle.
Once the thread is through the needle, we’re ready to load the bobbin for the bottom thread. When placing the bobbin in the machine, make sure the thread is running clockwise. Hold the bobbin with the thread looking like the letter “Q”—this will help you remember the correct direction.
And that’s it! You’re all set and ready to start sewing.
